DAC Clears Defence Proposals Worth Rs 2.12 Lakh Crore

On 26 October 2026, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, gave Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to capital acquisition proposals worth about Rs 2,12,000 crore. Nearly 82 per cent of the purchases will be made from Indian industry. The approvals cover the Army, Navy and Air Force. An AoN is only an in-principle approval, so the proposals must still pass further stages before contracts are signed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India's new greenfield data centre and Enterprise Computing and Cybersecurity Training Institute on 25 October 2026. The campus is at Info Valley-II in Jatni, Khordha district, near Bhubaneswar, and covers 18.55 acres. It will work as a backup to the RBI's primary data centre at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, and will support payments, currency management and business continuity.

Japan and US Hold Keen Sword 27 Exercise

Japan and the United States began the biennial Keen Sword 27 exercise on 19 October 2026, and it runs until 29 October. About 45,000 Japanese and 12,000 American personnel are taking part, focusing on the defence of Japan's southwestern islands. The opening ceremony was held on Ishigaki Island.
